Giovanni Valecce developed his master thesis at the Institute of Intelligent Systems for Automation (ISSIA-CNR) in collaboration with the Telematics Lab of the Politecnico di Bari.
Giovanni's master thesis shows the advantages of the integration of IoT and Robotics technologies. The work presents an automated deployment for a Wireless Sensor Network using an Unmanned Ground Vehicle. The project considers the problem of the coverage of an area of interest with motes, aiming at an efficient connectivity level, while maximizing the covered surface. The motion of the robot is dynamically conditioned by the RSSI value corresponding to the released motes. A homogeneous and various positioning of the motes has been obtained, underlining the differences with the ideal motes' positions, as suggested by a deterministic theory.
