SHORT BIO

Francesco Mattia is a senior research scientist at the Institute of Intelligent Systems for Automation (ISSIA), National Council of Research (CNR), Bari, Italy. His research field is direct and inverse modeling of microwave scattering from land surfaces. He has extensively worked on the retrieval of land bio-geophysical parameters (e.g. soil moisture content, soil roughness, vegetation biomass) from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. More recently, his scientific interests have been steered to investigate the integrative use of earth observation data and land surface process models (e.g. hydrologic or crop growth models) for improving water and agricultural resources management.
