ABSTRACT

With in mind the visionary scenario of establishing a robot colony in a remote site, e.g. a planet, asteroid or deep sea, that can be periodically refurbished with basic components and materials, research focuses on the design and development of a family of self-assembling robots able to assemble, also cooperating each other, a self-replica of the prime ancestor and/or a more complex robot.

SelfB, a simple robot equipped with camera and gripper, is designed to be able to assemble a self-replica of itself. At this stage research aims at moving from TRL2 (formulation of the technology concept) to TRL3 (Experimental proof of concept in lab).
